My teen daughter wants to upgrade her worn out Tracfone to a BYOP with tracfone still providing service. I think I can't get my number ported back to TF as they deactivated that phone number when I ported it over to TING - aaaarrrrggghhhhh! I'm a little scared of doing this since I ported my TF phone number to the TING service. I have a MOTO G and got their SIM kit and am about to transfer my service from TING back to TF. TF is good if you don't have to interact with their Customer Service. This is so F'in convoluted I just can't believe it. I don't think it's going to happen as I have to return by 9/10 to get refund. She will have to activate the Alcatel then move the minutes off the Moto E back to the Alcatel, in order for her to send me back the Moto E Phone. So they have to send her a new SIM (2 days). She called Tracfone today and they told her just what the first guy on this post said "your SIM is deactivated". As she was having real problems with the Moto E, not understanding anything about it, I said to transfer your minutes back to the Alcatel and send the Moto E back to me and I will return to Amazon. She didn't know what an icon or app was, where home screen was, or it was a nightmare and totally over her head. She got the new cell I sent and had her minutes moved from the Alcatel onto the Moto E. So I tried to help and bought her what I thought was simple phone, a Moto E TF from Amazon, and sent it to her. She knows nothing about cell phone especially newer ones. TF had sent her a small Alcatel phone to use and moved her minutes off the old LG onto the Alcatel TF. My sister had an old LG flip Tracfone and when she went to buy one-year minutes they told her that she needed a new cell phone. Nah, that's wouldn't be honest of them, I must just be paranoid. Do you suppose it's possible that TracFone remotely deactivated my SIM so that my phone wasn't costing them more than they want to pay for me to use it? The area we spent the past week in is AT&T only, none of the bargain basement carriers that TracFone prefers to pay for their service. I read above that TracFone can, and has, remotely nuked SIM cards as a matter of policy. So my phone is out of commission for phone & text for at least five days. This is odd, how does a SIM card become invalid driving down a country road? After contacting TracFone support twice, they need to send me another SIM, then I'll have to call back - AGAIN - to activate the new SIM. I check the connection, and see in the top left corner Invalid SIM card. When we get home, my TracFone beeps once to indicate it connected to our home WiFi. We drove back home from our getaway in the Adirondacks, about a 3 hour trip. Yesterday morning 11 AM, my TracFone was working as well as it ever has. If I don't like the W376 I will still need another SIM for the W370 so I can again have a cell phone.unless I decide to switch to Verizon.Ĭomments for Surprises of the TracFone SIM Card. If I like the W376 and keep it I will then need to call the 800 number and and have them send me another new SIM for the W370 because my wife wants it. Then I will exchange the LG for a Motorola W376, and transfer everything to it, again deactivating the W370.and its SIM. So my scenario is that I need a new SIM for the W370 to transfer stuff off the LG 600g and back to the W370. Why does TracFone do this? "Because that's the way The System is set up." When I receive it I have to call them back to have them walk me thru activating it. I called the number and they confirm that is what happens, and there is no way they can re-activate it electronically.I have to be mailed one. That's right, they deactivate the SIM electronically even if it is the one that came with the phone. I get all the way to the end when the screen says I have to call the 800 number and get a new SIM. So I went back on line and transfer everything back. After spending about an hour setting up my new phone I find I don't like the way it does some things and decide I want to return it to Target. This "deactivates" the W370, which was expected. True example: I got a new LG600g and transfered my number and minutes from my Motorola W370 to it. If you deactivate a phone you have to get a new SIM card from TracFone if you want to put it back in service. It was a time to purge some numbers, anyway. Yes, I will have to re-key in all 300 names on the contact list in my old phone. If you already have a phone, you can activate it on these plans with the appropriate SIM card: The info from Terry about Tracfone below is still valid as far as I know. Note you can now get NET10 and Straight Talk SIM Cards that work with unlocked phones, but you have to use them with their unlimited plans. Update: Net10 and Straight Talk Sim Cards
