You don't even need to connect to the server to see this in action, as it always generates a new Alpha-sector planet when you start it. Server-side planet generation is visible in this log, however - when generating a new world, it's logged as "Creating world ", along with a bunch of information about the dungeon generation and the typical errors it runs into. Log files such as this aren't a good gauge of what files are actually being accessed, because the only stuff logged is what the developers saw fit to log. You mention starbound_server.txt (.log, actually) below. The only thing stored on the client-side is characters and their ships. The "universe" folder stores all the server-side data, whether the server is a dedicated server or the one-man server that's quietly fired up when you play single-player. You're mistaking the fact that the client and dedicated server store their data in the same place as evidence that everything is kept client-side. I got the idea from watching friends try to set up servers at home just to play with a few friends on the weekends etc. My hobby is game servers and I have finally worked hard enough and saved enough to get this off the ground. In my spare time I created a site called it allows you to create free game servers - so far only a select few games but maybe someday it can get bigger.
